Josh Brent's future with the Dallas Cowboys remains in question following the December drunk-driving accident that took the life of his teammate, Jerry Brown.
The 24-year-old nose tackle faces intoxication manslaughter charges and up to 20 years in prison. The Cowboys placed Brent on the reserve/non-football injury list soon after the accident, but team owner Jerry Jones isn't ready to make a decision on the defender's future in Dallas.
"What we're doing is basically, and my thinking has been dictated by the legal process, so until we know more about timing, status, how that's resolved there, then I won't even think about where he is as far as his career is concerned," Jones said Tuesday from the Senior Bowl, per The Dallas Morning News. "We'll see. We have to, and that involves ultimately league matters as well, and more importantly, where he is in the justice system."
On the heels of Jay Ratliff's arrest Tuesday on DWI charges, the Cowboys are filled with questions at nose tackle. Ratliff's position with the team appears safe, but he was limited to just six games this past season because of injuries, which pushed Brent into the lineup 12 times, including five starts.
In Brent's case, the Cowboys have gone out of their way to handle his situation with care and grace. That doesn't mean he'll have a job next season, and it's clear Jones isn't ready to make a decision until this process plays out.
