Jay Gruden, San Diego Chargers to meet Sunday

The San Diego Chargers plan to sit down with Chucky's little brother.

Citing a team source, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported the Chargers will interview Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden on Sunday for their vacant head-coaching position.

The Chargers wrapped up their search for a general manager with last week's hiring of Tom Telesco. That has led to speculation that Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians is a front-runner for the job because of their shared ties in Indianapolis, but the Chargers aren't talking to Gruden for mere giggles. San Diego's brass appears intent on finding an offensive-minded coach to take over a roster that still includes quarterback Philip Rivers and tight end Antonio Gates.

Outside of meeting with former Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith, the Chargers' candidate pool is heavy on offensive coaches, including fired Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt, Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy and, of course, Arians.
