Jairus Byrd visiting New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints threw a free agency curveball at the rest of the NFL on Tuesday.

Former Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd is en route to the Big Easy for his first visit, a source told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.

The conventional wisdom was that the Saints were releasing franchise mainstays Lance Moore, Darren Sproles, Will Smith and Roman Harper to free up money for a monstrous Jimmy Graham contract.

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis apparently has a more extensive blueprint in mind.

Holding the coveted No. 1 spot on Around The League's free-agent tracker, Byrd would form a dynamite tag team with second-year rising starKenny Vaccaro if he stays in New Orleans.
