The Oakland Raiders have plenty of young receivers, but quarterback Carson Palmer lacks a clear-cut No. 1 target out West.
Plaxico Burress isn't going to solve that problem, but he's available and he's expressed a desire to play for the Raiders (along with roughly 12 other teams).
Oakland has room on the roster, but wideout isn't the only need. Still, Raiders coach Dennis Allen hasn't crossed Burress off the list.
"I'll say this, we're going to look at any options that are out there that we think can make us better," Allen told Paul Gutierrez of Comcast SportsNet Bay Area. "Whether or not we make any moves or not, that's to be determined. But we're not going to rule anything out."
That doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement. Burress was good for 45 catches, 612 yards and eight touchdowns with the New York Jets last season, but most of his work came in the red zone. His speed has diminished and Burress feels like a shaky acquisition for a first-time head coach.
Besides, the Raiders would be better off allowing Denarius Moore to grow into the No. 1 role, with Darrius Heyward-Bey, Jacoby Ford and Juron Criner rounding out the group. We've heard a lot of Burress-related chatter this offseason, but it's nothing more than the wind until somebody comes calling on the old veteran.
