Injury roundup: RG3's knee must be '100 percent'

The Washington Redskins amazingly don't even need Robert Griffin III to put up 38 points on the road against a solid defense. That gives coach Mike Shanahan the enviable situation of being careful with his rookie quarterback's health.

Make no mistake, though: Griffin will start when he's cleared.

Shanahan said Monday that RG3 will be the starter again once doctors say the rookie's sprained right knee has healed "100 percent."

"If the doctor gives his OK, he's going to play," Shanahan said, via The Associated Press.

Here are the other injury items to know from Monday:

  1. The Baltimore Ravens continue to lose defenders. Starting linebacker Jameel McClain is out for the season with a spinal cord contusion. He was injured in Week 14.
  1. Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall was activated from suspension after one week away from the team. He might just have a big role this week, considering the Steelers' struggling running game.
  1. New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw (knee) says he'll play this week. Then again, he says that every week. Bradshaw said Sunday's game in Atlanta would have been a lot different if he was available (They would have lost 34-7?).
  1. Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew (foot) has a chance to play this week, according to coach Mike Mularkey. (Fantasy owners everywhere say: "Thanks, buddy.")
  1. Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy has been cleared from his concussion and could play against the Redskins after missing four games, coach Andy Reid said, via the Philadelphia Inquirer. Tight end Brent Celek (concussion) returned to practice Monday. It looks like he'll be back this week.
  1. Miami Dolphins fullback Charles Clay tore a ligament in his right knee against the Jacksonville Jaguars and will having season-ending surgery, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
  1. Workhorse Harvey Dahl likely won't be on the field for the St. Louis Rams again this season. The guard, who had made 30 consecutive starts with the Rams, suffered a torn biceps against the Minnesota Vikings and is done for the season, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
