Glover Quin signs five-year Detroit Lions contract

If the first day of free agency belonged to the Miami Dolphins, the Detroit Lions are doing their best to catch up in Day 2.

The latest free agent to sign with the Lions is former Houston Texans safety Glover Quin. It's a five-year contract, as announced by the team.

After two seasons of touch-and-go injury updates from Louis Delmas, Quin offers a far more stable option at safety. Not only the Texans' leading tackler but also one of defensive coordinator Wade Phillips' top playmakers in 2012, Quin has missed only one game in four NFL seasons.

The 27-year-old ranked 23rd on Gregg Rosenthal's list of the top 85 free agents and No. 1 on my list of the best available safeties.

Although the Lions have re-signed Chris Houston and added Quin, they might not be done overhauling their secondary. The Texans, on the other hand, likely will lose pass rusher Connor Barwin in addition to Quin.
