It looks like it's only a matter of time before Asante Samuel is an ex-Eagle.Â
Fox Sports insider and NFL Network contributor Jay Glazer tweeted Tuesday morning that the Falconshave jumped into trade discussions with the Philadelphia Eagles regarding Samuel. Glazer said "talks could go either way."
NFL Network's Michael Lombardi reported Tuesday, citing a league source, that the Eagles are talking to several teams, and one of which is the Falcons, Â The Broncos and Titans both reportedly showed interest previously. NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reported Tuesday that Samuel was "likely" to be traded before the draft.Â
Lombardi reported that Samuel must take a reduction in his contract to make a trade happen. Because of his high salary, the Eagles are only expected to get a late round pick in return.
Samuel still plays at a high level, although he's overpaid at $21.5 million over the next two years. He could make sense on a short-term contract for teams pushing for the playoffs that have the salary cap space to take him on a short-term contract.
The Eagles have clearly decided they can't afford Samuel. So they are going to take what they can get for him.
