EJ Manuel sprains knee in Buffalo Bills' loss

An entertaining game on Thursday night between the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns was marred by quarterback injuries.

Bills rookie quarterback EJ Manuel went to the locker room with a knee injury in the third quarter of Buffalo's 37-24 loss. He did not return. Bills coach Doug Marrone said after the game that he was told Manuel had a sprained knee.

Jeff Tuel, an undrafted rookie, replaced him at quarterback. Manuel suffered the injury on a 14-yard scramble down the right sideline to the Cleveland 13. He appeared to have a chance to go out of bounds before getting hit by Browns safety Tashaun Gipson.

NFL Network cameras showed Manuel moving well on the sideline after the injury as he tested his knee, but then he left for more tests following a Cleveland touchdown. The Bills' offense also lost wide receiver Stevie Johnson, who left with a back injury.

Browns starting quarterback Brian Hoyeralso left in the first half with a right knee injury. NFL Media's Alex Flanagan reports that the Browns fear Hoyer tore ligaments in his knee.
