Dream on? Still hope for 6-8 Eagles to win NFC East

The poorly conceived "Dream Team" moniker was stripped early, but hope remains in the streets of Philly.

Despite a season dotted with ample moments of crisis -- and no lack of angry signage outside the team complex -- the Eagles are *still *mathematically alive in the postseason picture.

Andy Reid's 6-8 team can conceivably win the NFC East and, while improbable, it's not entirely a smoke-and-mirrors operation.

Four things must happen over the final two weeks of the season for Philly to thrust itself back into the spotlight. Here they are:

» Week 16: (1) The Jets beat the Giants, and (2) the Eaglesknock off the Cowboys.

» Week 17: (3) The Eagles top the Redskins, and (4) the Giants beat the Cowboys.

This would leave the Eagles, Giants and Cowboys at 8-8, with Philly winning the tiebreaker.

Saturday's Jets-Giants affair could be over by the time Philly and Dallas kick off, so this Eagles-to-the-playoffs riff might be quickly silenced. But if both pins fall, life gets interesting in the final act of the regular season.

"I'm a big Jets fan this week," Reid told The Associated Press on Monday.

Based on what's happened this season, the Eagles' biggest problem might be taking care of their own business. But the Giants and Cowboys have been equally infuriating during some stretches, suggesting that this NFC East race could go right down to the end.
