Detroit Lions to trade for safety help before deadline?

The Detroit Lions apparently are shopping for bodies in the secondary.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported Tuesday that Lions brass is concerned about safety Louis Delmas' health. With time running out, they're dialing around for options ahead of Thursday's extended trade deadline.

According to La Canfora, the Lions would like to find a reliable veteran presence for their pass defense after Delmas re-injured his left knee during Sunday's 28-24 win over the Seattle Seahawks. It's the same surgically repaired knee that kept Delmas out of the first four games of this season.

Delmas missed five games last season with a partially torn ligament that required surgery in his right knee and has just three starts in 2012. He has made a difference in each of those games, and losing Delmas means the Lions are down their best defensive back.

"He's like our Ray Lewis to the defense,"Lions cornerback Chris Houston told the Detroit Free Press earlier this month.

That won't be easy to replace through a trade.
