Detroit Lions hire Al Golden to coach tight ends

Al Golden is headed up north.

The Detroit Lions have hired Golden to be their tight ends coach, the team announced on Monday.

Golden was fired in 2015 as Miami Hurricanes head coach after failing to produce a single season of over nine wins. Before his stint in Miami, Golden rejuvenated Temple's football program.

Golden spoke with Cowboys coach Jason Garrett about their defensive backs coach vacancy, but nothing materialized.

Golden is now charged with getting some more production out of Detroit's tight ends. Second-year tight end Eric Ebron enjoyed his best season as a pro last year. However, the Lions expect more than 47 catches from the 2014 No. 10 overall pick.
