The San Francisco 49ers have announced that franchised safety Dashon Goldson has signed his one-year tender.
Goldson's tender is worth $6.212 million in fully guaranteed base salary. The two sides were unable to reach an agreement on a multi-year extension before the July 16 deadline to sign franchised players to new deals. The earliest that Goldson, who turns 28 in September, and the 49ers can reach a multi-year extension is December 31, the day after the 49ers' regular season finale against the Arizona Cardinals.
A 2007 fourth-round draft pick out of the University of Washington, Goldson was a reserve his first two seasons in the NFL before securing a starting role in 2009. Goldson recorded 174 tackles, three sacks and five interceptions over the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Goldson turned down a five-year, $25 million offer from the 49ers after last year's lockout, opting instead to test the free-agent market.
Though he paid one visit to the New England Patriots, Goldson returned to the 49ers on a one-year, $2 million contract and earned Pro Bowl honors after posting 67 tackles and a career-high six interceptions in 14 games last season. Goldson added 16 tackles and an interception in the 49ers' two postseason games.
With Goldson signing his tender, Detroit Lions defensive end Cliff Avril and Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe are the final two franchised players who have yet to sign their one-year contracts.
