Darren Sproles won't play for New Orleans Saints

New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles will not play in Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders, Fox Sports insider and NFL Network contributor Jay Glazer said on Fox's pregame show.

Sproles missed the last two games with a broken hand that required surgery, but he was believed to have a chance to return Sunday. The combination of Chris Ivory, Mark Ingram and Pierre Thomas has picked up the slack in Sproles' absence.

The Saints (4-5) are in must-win mode after an 0-4 start. The good news: They probably can afford to go without Sproles against the three-win Raiders, who rank 24th in the NFL against the pass. Drew Brees and the league's No. 2 pass offense should have plenty of success regardless.

UPDATE: The team has announced Sproles is officially inactive for the game.
