Darrelle Revis already an NFL great, Greg Schiano says

Darrelle Revis is the centerpiece of a rebuilt Tampa Bay Buccaneers secondary in 2013.

According to Dan Pompei of the Chicago Tribune, Bucs coach Greg Schiano calls Revis the best cornerback he's evaluated in 25 years. He referenced Deion Sanders and Aeneas Williams in assessing Revis' coverage skills.

"Darrelle is all of those things," Schiano said of Revis, who is expected to be ready for Week 1 following knee surgery to repair his torn anterior cruciate ligament. "He's big, physical; a cover guy, he'll tackle you. And he works his rear end off. His passion for preparation is something I love."

Schiano said Revis will allow the Bucs to take an opposing wide receiver out of the game, according to Pompei, something Revis did with regularity during his six seasons with the New York Jets.

Schiano's comments underscore why the Jets never should have parted with Revis in the first place. We're talking about arguably the greatest cornerback of his generation. Schiano must be pinching himself to get a player of that level still in his prime.
