New York Giants running back Da'Rel Scott made his first career start in Sunday's loss to the Chiefs. Two days later, he's no longer with the team.
The Giants announced Tuesday that Scott has been waived to create roster space for offensive lineman Dallas Reynolds.
The move comes as a surprise because Scott has led the backfield in snaps as the second-leading rusher and the primary passing-down back.
On the other hand, Scott dropped a pass and missed a block against the Chiefs. The 2011 seventh-round draft pick has averaged just 3.0 yards on 27 carries over 19 games during the past three seasons. He was the third-down back on a team that is dead last in the NFL in third-down efficiency.
Scott's release suggests not only that the coaching staff is higher on seventh-round rookie Mike Cox, but also that they are ready to place more responsibilities on David Wilson's shoulders in what is shaping up as a lost season.
Fantasy footballers might be interested to know that Wilson has handled 73 percent of the Giants carries the past two weeks. He also boasts one of the league's easiestschedules the rest of the way after facing one of the toughest over the first four weeks.
