The team announced that defensive tackle Corey Peters signed a one-year contract Tuesday.
A solid run defender, Peters is coming off his best season since being drafted in the third round out of Kentucky in 2010. Peters started 15 games in 2013, recording 46 tackles (29 solo) and a career-high five sacks.
Unfortunately, he went down with a torn Achilles tendon in late December. Although the recovery timetable for Achilles surgery has accelerated rapidly over the past decade, Peters is still a question mark for Week 1.
With Peters locked up, the Falcons are expected to turn their attention to fellow defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux and interior offensive lineman Joe Hawley.
Having cleared salary cap space, general manager Thomas Dimitroff could be a major player in free agency next week.
