Christian Ponder will be Minnesota Vikings' starting QB

Christian Ponder will start at quarterback when the Minnesota Vikingsvisit theDallas Cowboys on Sunday.

Vikings coach Leslie Fraziermade the announcement Friday after practice.

"Christian gives us the best chance to win," Frazier said, explaining the decision to start the third-year pro the over the newly signed Josh Freeman.

Frazier added that the Vikings hope Ponder keeps the job, but the team isn't looking further down the road, per The Star Tribune.

The Vikings coach did not announce who will back up Ponder, Freeman or Matt Cassel. Earlier in the week, Frazier ruled out Cassel from the starting competition.

Freeman missed last week after suffering a concussion in his first Vikings start, a Week 7 matchup against the New York Giants. At the very least, he gets another week to grasp the offensive playbook.

It's looking more and more like the Vikings will be in the quarterback market in 2014, and who makes that decision might be determined by how the team finishes in 2013.
