Christian Ponder: Adrian Peterson won't be distraction

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder was caught off-guard by reports of Adrian Peterson's arrest at a Houston nightclub early Saturday.

"He's one of our biggest leaders," Ponder told The Star Tribune. "Adrian is a great guy. Maybe it was one bad decision he made. Who knows? He won't be a distraction at all."

Rapoport: Peterson battling back

A devastating knee injury is putting Adrian Peterson's famous workout habits to the ultimate test, Ian Rapoport says. **More ...**

It's early to ask this question, but it's hanging out there: From a football standpoint, how does this affect the Vikings? The team is already starving for talent.

Echoing Ponder's words, I'm not sure a bad night in July has any effect at all. Using Peterson's five-year career as evidence, Ponder doesn't need to worry about AP pulling down the team. This is one of the league's hardest workers. He committed himself this offseason to returning from the torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered in December, and he figures in the team's plans as heavily as ever before.

Every roster has a handful (or more) players who must be taught how to work. That's never been an issue for Peterson.
