Chris Clemons doesn't sound happy with his employer -- or what they're paying him -- but he could soon be back with the Seattle Seahawks anyway.
Clemons skipped mandatory minicamp and reportedly rejected a three-year, $18 million extension, but the team doesn't sound overly concerned about the defensive end/linebacker staging a holdout.
"They totally expect him to show up for training camp," one Seahawks insider told ProFootballWeekly.com. "But they also thought he was going to show up for the mandatory minicamp, and that didn't happen, so ... but I really think he'll show up for camp, whether he's signed a new deal or not."
Clemons is set to make $4 million in 2012, the final year of his deal, but absorbed $73,000 in fines and forfeited a $100,000 workout bonus for going AWOL during the team's offseason program. If Clemons returns, there's another issue to deal with. PFW reported Clemons, about to turn 31, was nonplussed to see Pete Carroll draft Bruce Irvin, who figures to take over Clemons' grip on the "Leo" (DE/LB hybrid) role.
If there's a positive here, Clemons sounds purely agitated -- and ready to take it out on some hapless soul -- which should keep Alex Smith up at night.
"He already had a chip on his shoulder," the insider said. "He always feels like he has something to prove. With Irvin there, you know Clemons will be motivated."
