As the Chicago Bears continue to pile up young, middling cornerbacks, questions continue about the future of Charles Tillman.
The cornerback told "The McNeil and Spiegel Show" on WSCR-AMÂ that he doesn't know if he will return to Chicago but is certain he won't change positions.
"I don't want to play safety anywhere," Tillman said Wednesday morning.
There had been some discussion about whether the good-tackling ball hawk could follow in the footsteps of aging corners like Charles Woodson, Rod Woodson and Ronde Barber, who made successful transitions to safety. That appears to be a nonstarter for Tillman.
Coming off an injury-plagued season, the 33-year-old soon-to-be free agent believes he will be on an NFL squad in 2014.
"My gut is I will be on an NFL team next year," Tillman said. "Everyone knows how the process works. It's a business. If I'm here, sweet. If I'm not, that's business ... There's no hard feelings. I love Chicago. Chicago's been nothing but great -- great owners, great organization, great teammates."
One logical destination if Tillman leaves Chicago is joining former Bears coach Lovie Smith with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. At the end of the day, how much money Tillman thinks he is worth will make the biggest difference between whether he remains in Chicago or moves to another city.
