Chad Johnson not on Cowboys' radar, says Garrett

In a press conference dominated by questions about Jason Witten's spleen, Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett fielded an inevitable inquiry about Chad Johnson.

Dallas has a pronounced hole at receiver behind Dez Bryant and Miles Austin, both of whom are nursing balking hamstrings, but Johnson hasn't piqued the team's interest -- not yet, at least.

Garrett said during his Wednesday news conference that the Cowboys "haven't had any discussions about Chad Johnson."

That message comes as no surprise. The Cowboys -- like 31 other teams -- aren't jumping to sign Johnson, who failed to pick up the New England Patriots playbook and was shuffled off the Miami Dolphins following his weekend arrest on a domestic violence charge.

Kevin Ogletree and Dwayne Harris might not scare defenses, but the Cowboys are more likely to work with their younger players than import a sizeable headache from outside team walls. Garrett's Cowboys have managed to trim the roster down to a group of players that buy into the scheme. Cole Beasley has seen time in the slot, with Andre Holmes, Tim Benford and Raymond Radway seeing increased time, according to the team's official site.

The Cowboys might ultimately look beyond today's roster for help, but it's not about to come in the form of Chad Johnson.
