He might need luck escaping Tim Tebow's mega-shadow, but little-known John Skelton is making a name for himself as a comeback artist in Arizona.
Stripped of the grand uproar surrounding Tebow's antics in Denver, Skelton -- in just his second season -- has quietly quarterbacked the Cardinals to five wins in six games, four of them as the team's starter in place of injured Kevin Kolb.
It was typical fare for the Cardinals to fall behind 17-7 in Sunday's overtime victory against the Browns. The Cards have trailed at the half in every game they've won during a 6-1 run down the stretch that has teammates believing -- yes -- it's Skelton Time.
"He makes throws, he scrambles, and he does whatever is necessary to get the victory," wideout Larry Fitzgerald told The Associated Press. "We know there is something special about the guy. He makes plays down the stretch.
"Everyone talks about Tim Tebow and his record as a starter, but you look at John's record and it's pretty good, too."
With Kolb still feeling the lingering effects of a concussion, coach Ken Whisenhunt remains vague about who will start the final two games of the season.
After investing so heavily to bring Kolb over from Philly during the offseason, Arizona now finds itself in the middle of minor drama at the quarterback spot, with some believing their passer of the future was here all along.
