It should be no surprise, then, that Arians believes West Virginia's Geno Smith doesn't quite stack up to last year's top quarterback prospects.
"The guys that were in the combine last year, all of them when they left the room, you went, 'Wow,'" Arians said this week at the NFL Annual Meeting in Phoenix, via ESPN.com's Mike Sando. "No one in this draft made me go, 'Wow.'"
Arians notes that mock drafts sending Smith to the Cardinals in the first round overemphasize perceived needs at the expense of actual player value. Unless he's going out of his way to dupe the rest of the NFL, Arians hardly sounds like a man ready to splurge on a quarterback.
"It depends once we get the roster set and if that (draft) room hasn't changed, (Stanton) is our starter," Arians said. "It's that easy."

The Cardinals have made no effort to address the NFL's worst offensive tackle situation in free agency. Logic suggests they will end up with one of the three left tackle prospects worthy of consideration with the seventh overall pick.
