Browns' Hillis sidelined for unknown time with hammy injury

BEREA, Ohio -- Peyton Hillis has an injured left hamstring, and Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur doesn't know how long his star running back will be sidelined.

Hillis was injured during the first quarter of Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Oakland Raiders. On Monday, Hillis underwent an MRI, which revealed the injury. Shurmur didn't provide any specifics on Hillis' condition.

Because of a miscommunication, Hillis' injury wasn't reported by the Browns until the second half Sunday, leading to speculation he was being benched by Shurmur. However, Shurmur said he was told in the first quarter by the team's training staff that Hillis, who missed a game earlier this season with strep throat, only could play in an emergency situation.

Shurmur also said Hillis wasn't on the trading block. The NFL's trading deadline is Tuesday.

Also, Browns linebacker Scott Fujita sustained a concussion. Shurmur doesn't know when Fujita will be back.
