Two weeks ago, we delved into the rather open-ended status of Braylon Edwards, the veteran free agent who could represent good value for a team looking for a wide receiver with credentials.
The New York Jets were linked to bringing back Edwards for a second go-around earlier this offseason, and general manager Mike Tannenbaum hardly slammed the door on that speculation Thursday.
"I would not rule him out," Tannenbaum said, according to Newsday.
Tannenbaum praised Edwards' intense practice habits, but cautioned no move was imminent.
"I don't expect us to sign anybody before the draft," he said. "We'll see where that goes heading into May and June."
With Plaxico Burress taking on the visage of a five-month fever dream, the Jets have an opening at No. 2 receiver and could be tempted to fill the spot at Radio City Music Hall. Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon and Notre Dame's Michael Floyd are unlikely to fall to the No. 16 spot, but the Jets see plenty of wide receiver value in the middle rounds as well.
Also keep in mind Tannenbaum has traded up in the first round three times in his career, drafting Darrelle Revis (2007), Dustin Keller (2008) and Mark Sanchez (2009).
Edwards could very well return to the Jets, but he seems to be strictly a backup plan at this time.
