Braylon Edwards: Blame 'idiots' in charge of Jets

Mark Sanchez has at least one supporter in his corner after being benched Sunday and then having to watch Greg McElroy lead the New York Jets to a win over the Arizona Cardinals. We're just not sure how much this helps the quarterback's cause.

Former teammate Braylon Edwards took to Twitter to defend Sanchez.

"Don't blame Sanchez. I played there. Blame the idiots calling shots. Mark is a beast and will prove it when given a proper chance," Edwards tweeted Monday night.

The problem is Edwards has a certain reputation around the NFL. His words tend to be taken with a certain grain of salt.

We're not completely disagreeing with Edwards here. The Jets' offensive issues aren't all on Sanchez, but he is on pace to throw more interceptions than touchdowns for the first time since his rookie year. Sanchez has not played well by any stretch of the imagination, and the pass offense ranks No. 28 in the NFL.

That's not all on Sanchez. He needs more help to be playoff competitive. But it's not all on "the idiots" either.

UPDATE: Edwards tweeted an apology Tuesday for his "outburst".
