Atari Bigby placed on IR by San Diego Chargers

Perhaps if safety Atari Bigby was on the field late in the fourth quarter during Sunday's 16-13 overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens, he could've been the man who stopped Ray Rice short of that fateful on 4th-and-29 run.

Instant Debate: Time for Norv to go?

The Chargers blew a late lead on Sunday. Should that finally mark the end of Norv Turner's tenure in San Diego? **More ...**

We'll never know. Bigby suffered a groin injury in the first half that was serious enough for the Chargers to place the seven-year veteran on injured reserve Tuesday, ending his season.

Bigby recorded 68 tackles in 11 starts, good enough for second on the team at the time of his injury. The 31-year-old signed a two-year, $2.5-million contract in March.

Bigby was one of three Chargers safeties to go down Sunday. Eric Weddle suffered a concussion and Darrell Stuckey hurt his hamstring. Weddle is expected to be back next Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. Stuckey's status is unknown.
