Foster is being brought along slowly as he continues his recovery from a strained calf suffered during workouts this spring. Reed is recovering from surgery in April to repair a hip issue.
Of the two stars, Foster is more likely to see training camp and preseason action. Reed is approaching his 35th birthday and will be handled differently. We might not see the former Baltimore Ravens stalwart before Week 1. Rookie D.J. Swearinger will get plenty of reps at free safety during Reed's absence.
Ben Tate will pick up Foster's workload in training camp. Don't be surprised if Tate has a bigger role on offense this season as the Texans attempt to lessen Foster's workload. The calf injury might have served as a nice reminder that Foster might not be able to withstand another season of close to 400 touches.
