Aqib Talib brought an immediate upgrade to the New England Patriots' secondary this season, but the cornerback was tight-lipped Monday about his future with the team.
"I'm not really worried about all that right now," Talib told ESPNBoston.com's Field Yates on Monday. "Like you said, the game was 12 hours ago. I'm in the training room with the guys, we're having fun right now. I'm still a Patriot. Free agency doesn't start 'til March, so until then, I'm still a Patriot and just enjoying my time."
Asked if he'd like to be back, Talib -- acquired in a midseason trade from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- later spoke positively, but in the past tense, about his run in New England.
"Man, I had a lot of fun here, man," Talib said. "Definitely enjoyed my time here, we'll see what happens in the future, but I definitely had the most fun I've had playing football in a long time here."
Patriots coach Bill Belichick was equally reserved about his plans for Talib and the entire roster, but there's no doubting New England was better with the 26-year-old cover man on the field.
After an injury forced Talib out of Sunday's AFC Championship Game loss to the Baltimore Ravens, quarterback Joe Flacco had his way with New England's secondary. It's hard to imagine the Patriots wouldn't want a player of Talib's caliber back. The Patriots, of course, now have plenty of time to ponder their plans.
