Andrew Hawkins activated by Cincinnati Bengals off IR

The Cincinnati Bengals' offense looked plenty dangerous during its destruction of the New York Jets on Sunday.

Now, they're adding another weapon to the mix. The team announced Thursday that wide receiver Andrew Hawkins has been activated from the injured reserve-designated to return list.

Hawkins had been sidelined with an ankle injury since early August. By rule, Hawkins was unable to practice with the team until Week 7. His first chance at game availability is Week 9.

Hawkins was a rising playmaker for the Bengals a season ago, when he caught 51 passes for 533 yards and four touchdowns. He suffered the ankle injury while attempting to make a catch in practice Aug. 1.

Hawkins rejoins a crowded receiver field in Cincinnati that includes A.J. Green, Mohamed Sanu and Marvin Jones, who had four touchdown receptions against the Jets.

Hawkins brings a unique skill set to the mix, however. His small frame and plus-quickness make him a handful for defenders out of the slot. The rich get richer.
