Al Davis' life celebrated in Las Vegas memorial service

Independence Day marks our nation's launching point, but it's also the birthday of former Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis, who passed away on October 8, 2011.

His friends and family gathered Wednesday to remember Davis in a memorial service in Las Vegas. He would have turned 83 this Fourth of July.

The ceremony -- put on by the Davis family, per The Sports Xchange -- included our very own Michael Lombardi, who worked closely with Davis as a member of the Raiders' front office from 1999 to 2007.

Rich Gannon, who revived his career in Oakland and helped guide the Raiders to Super Bowl XXXVII, also tweeted about the gathering:
