After Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy cautiously described Aaron Rodgers as limited in Wednesday's practice, tight end Andrew Quarless pulled back the veil, saying the star quarterback played with the first team and "looked real good."
"It was good to see him out there really working with the offense," Quarless said, per Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "He was out there before, but it wasn't much with the offense. Today he took some offensive reps."
All the media witnessed Wednesday was Rodgers engaged in light throwing, a scramble drill and a series of dropbacks, but asked again if the signal-caller played with the first team, Quarless replied: "Yes sir."
Before Quarless spoke, McCarthy emphasized that Rodgers hasn't been medically cleared but said: "I didn't think he was in pain today."
Bottom line, Rodgers needs a positive CT scan before suiting up. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that Rodgers is unlikely to be cleared before Sunday's game with the Cowboys, per a source informed of the player's health, who added that the team expects Matt Flynn to start in Dallas.
Neither Flynn nor McCarthy said a word about first-team reps for Rodgers, but Quarless, per Silverstein, "gushed" over what he saw. For concerned Packers fans everywhere, it's a start.
