Aaron Berry signs with Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Brownsannounced Monday they signed cornerback Aaron Berry.

The 5-foot-11 corner missed all of the 2013 season after tearing his ACL last July during offseason workouts with the New York Jets.

Berry has good size, speed and ball skills. His trouble has been staying on the field.

In 2012, Berry was in line to compete for a starting job with the Detroit Lions. However, Detroit cut the corner after two arrests in one month during the offseason. After serving a three-game suspension for a DUI and brandishing a gun in his hometown of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Berry signed with the Jets. He appeared in seven games as a reserve in 2012.

Given coach Mike Pettine's familiarity with Berry from their time together in New York, it's a good flyer for the Browns.

Berry will compete for a roster spot behind Joe Haden, rookie Justin Gilbert, Buster Skrine, Pierre Desir and Leon McFadden.

For Berry, it could be his last chance to make something of what was once viewed as a promising NFL career.
