John Skelton has returned to the Cardinals' starting lineup, KGME-AM's Mike Jurecki reported. Skelton was made the starter after the preseason, started the season opener, got hurt, lost his job, got the job back, got hurt again and now will make his fifth start of the year. Follow that?
Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt didn't exactly give Skelton a ringing endorsement, either.
"There's a number of reasons that we're making this decision," Whisenhunt said, via The Associated Press. "I'm not going to get into each one of these reasons, but that's the direction we're going."
Skelton told The AP his latest benching was humbling.
"You've always got to take the good with the bad," he said. "You can never let yourself get too high or too low. I think me being kind of even-keeled helps the situation. I don't let myself worry about it too much. I know that it's part of the game. The whole process, Anything on the field, off the field, is all a learning process. You've got to take it in stride."
Poor Larry Fitzgerald. One of the NFL's most talented wide receivers continues to run wind sprints for 60 minutes on Sundays as Cardinals quarterbacks continue to underachieve -- and that's putting it mildly. The combination of Skelton, Kevin Kolb and Ryan Lindley has thrown 10 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions. They've completed just 55 percent of their passes for the worst total and scoring offense in the NFL. Skelton's 54.7 completion percentage is the worst in the league amongst players with a minimum of 179 attempts.
Fitzgerald is on pace for a career low in touchdown receptions. His receptions and yards should be the lowest since his rookie campaign.
Two words: Free Fitzgerald.
