Rod Tidwell 'A Football Life' offers nice nostalgia kick

This past year marked the 20th anniversary of the release of Jerry Maguire. Yes, you are old and will not be spared from the inexorable march of time.

Anyway, in celebration of the greatest romantic comedy/sports hybrid movie of all time, NFL Films has released a 10-minute episode of A Football Life focusing on the life and times of Rod Tidwell.

You won't see Tom Cruise or Cuba Gooding Jr. pop up here, but we do get cameos from slimeball agent Bob Sugar, Tidwell's brother Tee Pee and the "Did You Know The Human Head Weighs Eight Pounds?" kid (who is now a man person). Vanilla Ice and Salt-N-Pepa also pop to crank up the nostalgia factor to '11.'

NFL Films takes some artistic license with a final career twist for Tidwell, which you can watch for yourself. One wonders if Jerry Maguire writer/director Cameron Crowe would see it the same way, but it makes for a thought-provoking final coda nonetheless.
