Keith Rivers signs one-year contract with Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have added depth to their linebacker group on the eve of free agency.

The team announced Wednesday that former Bills linebacker Keith Rivers has signed a one-year contract with the team.

Rivers, 28, was released last month after one unproductive season in Buffalo in which he managed just 16 tackles in 12 games. He came to the Bills after a two-season run with the Giants and a three-season stay with the Bengals, who made him the ninth overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.

Rivers can play both weak side and strong side linebacker, giving the Cowboys the type of flexibility they need with the position in a state of flux. Justin Durant, Rolando McClain and Bruce Carter -- the team's top linebackers in 2014 -- are all headed toward free agency and are expected to test the market.
