Hmm: Perfect preseason teams all remain undefeated

Everybody knows the preseason doesn't mean anything. Right?

Here's your Weird NFL Factoid Of The Day: All four teams that went 4-0 in the preseason -- a group that includes the Vikings, Ravens, Texans and Eagles -- are undefeated through Week 2 of the regular season.

Then there's this (cues up Stranger Things theme): Only two teams went winless in the preseason -- the Saints and the Browns -- and both those teams are 0-2 in the regular season.

I'm going to have to do some research to bring this post home, aren't I? Damn it.

No NFL team has ever gone 0-4 during the exhibition slate and gone on to win the Super Bowl since the NFL adopted the 16-game format in 1978. Conversely, only two teams -- the 2013 Seahawks and 2003 Patriots -- went 4-0 in the preseason and ended up covered in confetti in February.

And now let's give a shoutout to the 2008 Detroit Lions, who, if nothing else, proved conclusively that preseason perfection means nada. Those Lions, led by head coach ... trivia time ... go ahead ... c'mon now ... led by coach Rod Marinelli ripped off four straight wins in August then lost all 16 games in the regular season.

Marinelli offered a one-word response when asked on the eve of the season opener what his team's undefeated preseason meant.

Nailed it.
