Ohio State placed four defenders in the first two rounds of this year's draft, and placed six defenders in the 2016 draft, yet the Buckeyes are still tied for the most selectees on the 2017 Bednarik Award (top college defensive player) watch list.
OSU and Florida State each have four players on the 85-player watch list, which was released on Monday. Buckeyes DE Nick Bosa, the younger brother of 2016 Defensive Rookie of the Year Joey Bosa, is among the OSU players on the watch list.
Safety Derwin James and cornerback Tarvarus McFadden lead the Seminoles contingent on the list.
Redskins first-round pick Jonathan Allen of Alabama won the award last year. Other past recipients include Aaron Donald (2013), Tyrann Mathieu (2011), Patrick Peterson (2010) and Ndamukong Suh (2009).
Semifinalists for the award will be announced Oct. 30, and the three finalists will be revealed on Nov. 20. The winner will be announced on Dec. 7.
