Jim Harbaugh tapped Colin Kaepernick as best player

NEW ORLEANS -- If you've ever watched a Jim Harbaugh press conference, you know the man doesn't part with information easily.

This extends to his family life, apparently. At a press conference for Jack and Jackie Harbaugh (aka the most famous parents in America), Jack recalled a telephone conversation following the first day of the 2011 NFL Draft.

"So I said, 'Jim, tomorrow in the second round, surely you're going to draft a quarterback. Which one is it going to be?' " Jack said, via The Sacramento Bee. "And it's dead silence. In fact, I can hear his voice (lets out a sigh)."

Jim asked if Jack was talking to anyone else. He replied, "I'm not talking to anybody. I'm your dad, you've got to tell me."

Jim -- still skeptical -- asked Jack if he planned on telling his wife, Jackie.

"Would you just tell me who it is?" Jack said. "I promise you, I won't say anything to anybody."

Jim ended the humorous exchange with an answer that showed just how much he thought of the player who would become the Niners' second-round choice.

"He said, 'We're drafting Colin Kaepernick,' " Jack said. "He said, 'I not only think he's the best quarterback in the draft, I think that he's the best football player in the draft. And we're going with Colin Kaepernick.' "

Jim got his man. It remains to be seen if he also got the best player in the draft, but Kaepernick is certainly off to a good start.
