Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed swears he'll be playing in 2013 regardless of what happens in Super Bowl XLVII. If not, he still plans to be on the field on Sundays.
Reed wants to coach after his playing days conclude, Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome revealed Friday.
"Ed wants to be a coach, so he sees this as an opportunity to start his coaching career by helping those young players come along," Newsome said, via USA Today's Jim Corbett. "The thing about Ed is, he doesn't just talk about it. He goes out and works the way you have to work to get it done."
There should be plenty of opportunities for a nine-time Pro Bowl selection and former defensive player of the year. The Ravens would be an obvious fit, but there are former Ravens coaches throughout the professional and college ranks. Former defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano, for example, is the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. He recruited Reed to play at the University of Miami.
