Raiders move on with DE Shaughnessy out for season

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders have placed defensive end Matt Shaughnessy on season-ending injured reserve with a shoulder injury.

The team made the move Wednesday to create room on the 53-man roster for new quarterback Carson Palmer.

Shaughnessy injured his shoulder during the Week 3 game against the New York Jets and hasn't played since. He had seven sacks last season, and the Raiders were counting on big things from Shaughnessy in his third season.

Defensive tackle Desmond Bryant has started the last two games at end, and pass rushers Trevor Scott and Jarvis Moss also have received more playing time to make up for the loss of Shaughnessy.

The Raiders also signed offensive lineman Zach Hurd to the practice squad.
