Chris Johnson believes contract talks with the Tennessee Titans are at a standstill.
The running back spoke Wednesday night after receiving the ESPY for Best Breakthrough Athlete. He said he wasn't sure about reports that the Titans were talking with his agent about converting incentives into a $2.5 million bonus to get him more money this year.
"I'm letting my agent and the team handle that," Johnson said. "Right now we're at a standstill, and hopefully when camp starts, we'll have an outcome."
Johnson wants a long-term deal with at least $30 million guaranteed, but he indicated that he would be happy with a short-term pay hike. Johnson said when the Titans do something, he'll be in camp with his teammates.
NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi reported on July 5 that the ice between Chris Johnson's agent, Joel Segal, and the Tennessee Titans had begun to thaw, making a deal likely before camp, which starts July 31.
Johnson, who ran for 2,006 yards in 2009 and was named the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year, skipped all of the Titans' organized team activities and minicamp this offseason to show his displeasure with his contract. However, Johnson worked out at the team's facility twice this summer, *The Tennessean* reported, although the running back denied it.
