Some think it's a Matt Millen-esque move for the franchise, whereas others will call it a bold trade that will give Detroit an offense that doubles as a fantasy football team with all those weapons.
Count NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah among those who have heard the rumors and is totally on board with the Lions moving up for Watkins.
"I'm supposed to say this is a deep draft at receiver, and you just sit where you are and take a receiver there," said Jeremiah on "Path to the Draft." "I'm going to say it's time for the Detroit Lions to be bold. Make a move, go up and get Sammy Watkins and pair him up with Megatron and Golden Tate.
"I'm all for it."
We would be remiss if we didn't point out that Jeremiah has a slight "man crush" on Watkins in this draft. He has the wideout as his No. 2 overall player and has spent just about every episode of "Path to the Draft" begging teams to take Watkins if they have a chance.
Watkins is a talented player to be sure, but is it really worth it for a team to spend the capital to move up in a draft many consider the most talented in years?
Will general manager Martin Mayhew take Jeremiah's advice and make such a bold move? We'll find out in May when the draft rolls around.
