Eagles, Chiefs to attend Tannehill workouts this week

With just a few weeks remaining until the 2012 NFL Draft begins April 26, the Ryan Tannehill sweepstakes are about to kick into overdrive.

Instant Debate: The swing pick

Most folks think the Browns hold the swing pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. What should Cleveland do at No. 4? Let's debate! **More ...**

The Cleveland Browns seriously are considering taking the Texas A&M quarterback with the fourth overall pick, sources told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora last week, and now it appears the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs can be added to the list of teams possibly pining for Tannehill.

A group of Eagles brass will be in College Station, Texas, on Monday to watch Tannehill go through a private workout and the Chiefs will make a trip to see Tannehill later this week, SI.com's Peter King reported.

"I don't really know why," Tannehill told King on Saturday in regard to his meeting with the Eagles. "I'll just get ready to throw for them and do my best."

The Eagles reportedly were interested in Peyton Manning this offseason and own the 15th-overall pick in the draft. The Chiefs hold the No. 11 pick in the first round.

If either the Eagles or Chiefs decide they want to trade up to take Tannehill, it looks like they could have stiff competition from the Miami Dolphins.

Dolphins officials, including general manger Jeff Ireland and coach Joe Philbin, dined with Tannehill in Texas last Wednesday and spent about 90 minutes probing his football knowledge on Thursday after his workout.

Tannehill is a fairly raw quarterback prospect due in part to the one year he spent as a wide receiver in college before he was moved back under center by then-Texas A&M coach Mike Sherman, now offensive coordinator of the Dolphins.

"I was an arrogant little freshman at the time," Tannehill said. "I said to coach Sherman, 'I think you're making a mistake.' He sort of chuckled to himself. I forget what he said. But they just told me to go out the next day at practice and run some routes. Two days later, I was in the starting rotation at receiver. Obviously, I was frustrated, but now I realize it gave me a different look at offensive football -- what receivers go through, how they see defensive backs, where they like the ball delivered. Things like that. So it worked out all right."
