The New York Jets had the most anemic passing offense in the NFL last season, and were the only team that failed to reach the 3,000-yard mark in passing yards.
The Jets have added wide receiver Brandon Marshall via trade this offseason, but NFL Media analyst Curtis Conway says they need to do more -- like taking Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper with the No. 6 overall pick in the draft.
"Get Geno (Smith) some help, guys," Conway said on NFL Network's "Path to the Draft" Thursday.
"You have Marshall outside, you put (Cooper) inside ... you're going to see a different Jets team if you go and get Amari Cooper."
Indeed, if you're a Jets fan, it would be hard not to get excited about a wide receiving corps that would include Marshall, Cooper and holdover Eric Decker. But will Cooper be there when the Jets are on the clock at No. 6?
The Oakland Raiders pick fourth, and they would seem to be desperate for a wide receiver. If they indeed choose a receiver, do they go for Cooper or West Virginia's Kevin White?
White is No. 2 and Cooper No. 3 on NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah's list of the draft's Top 50 prospects.
All six NFL Media analysts that have posted a mock draft have the Raiders taking a wide receiver at No. 4. Four have the Raiders selecting White, the other two have them choosing Cooper.
There's also this: While the Jets certainly could use a youngster who can become an unquestioned No. 1 receiver, they also need an edge rusher -- and five of the six analysts have them going with a pass rusher at No. 6.
Still, while it has been easy to criticize Smith, giving him a full complement of weapons -- and a new coaching staff -- could mean he will be able to prove he is a viable NFL starting quarterback.
