A banged-up Virginia Tech team got more bad news Thursday when it was revealed starting tight end Ryan Malleck would miss the season with a shoulder injury.

Malleck (6-feet-4, 249 pounds), a junior, is the only tight end on the Hokies' roster who has caught a pass.

Junior Duan Perez-Means (6-4, 242) was listed second on the depth chart this week, and junior Zack McCray (6-4, 247) and sophomore Darius Redman (6-4, 256) also should see time Saturday against Alabama.

Both of the Hokies' starting tackles will be making their first college starts against the Tide. Left tackle Jonathan McLaughlin (6-5, 313) is a true freshman.
