Vikings hand off Jackson's No. 7 to first-round pick Ponder

Regardless of when the lockout ends, it's been clear that quarterback Tarvaris Jackson's days with the Minnesota Vikings are numbered.

First, the Vikings didn't tender the restricted free agent after the 2010 season, meaning he's free to hit the market.

Next, the club announced Tuesday that Jackson's No. 7 has been given to first-round draft choice Christian Ponder, making Jackson the only player on the Vikings roster at the end of the 2010 season to have his number given to a 2011 draft pick, according to *The Star Tribune*.

The newspaper pointed out that all of the Vikings' other restricted free agents who didn't receive a tender were spared such indignity. That group includes wide receiver Hank Baskett (No. 19), running back Albert Young (No. 34), fullback Naufahu Tahi (No. 38) and defensive tackle Fred Evans (No. 90).
