Vernon Adams says he's cleared for transfer to Oregon

Vernon Adams, a star quarterback from Eastern Washington, learned Thursday that he scored well enough on an exam to make his transfer to Oregon complete. After completing some paperwork, his effort to replace Marcus Mariota, the No. 2 overall pick in this year's draft, can officially begin.

Longtime Oregon reserve quarterback Jeff Lockie will have to beat out Adams for the starting job over the next couple of weeks.

Eastern Washington, an FCS program, went 11-3 last season with Adams at quarterback. He passed for more than 10,000 yards in his EWU career, including 110 touchdown passes to only 35 interceptions. Speculation has been that Adams would win the job to replace Mariota over Lockie, although Oregon coach Mark Helfrich hasn't discussed the possibility because Adams hasn't formally joined the team.
