VCU basketball standout Mo Alie-Cox signs with Colts

Former Virginia Commonwealth basketball player Mo Alie-Cox has found an NFL home.

The 6-foot-6 tight end has signed with the Indianapolis Colts, the team announced Friday.

Alie-Cox, who worked out for NFL teams earlier this month, was eligible for the 2016 draft and has been a free agent since then.

Cowboys tight end Jason Witten served as an inspiration of sorts for Alie-Cox's transition to football, as Witten once told Alie-Cox that he had a body for the game and should give it a shot.

The Colts, of course, are hoping he can be the next Antonio Gates, Jimmy Graham or Julius Thomas, as a former hoops player turned NFL star.

Indianapolis has on its roster another player who made the transition from the hardwood to the gridiron in Erik Swoopes, who was a standout for the University of Miami basketball team.
