"Kirby is going to have surgery, and he will be done for the year. That's something we discussed, and I should've updated you at the end of last week," Sumlin said, according to texags.com. "He had an ACL tear on top of the cartilage. We're going to get that fixed, and that'll be it for him."
To fill Ennis' void, defensive coordinator Mark Snyder said the Aggies will use a three-man rotation that includes freshman Isaiah Golden and sophomore Alonzo Williams.
An interior prospect with experience as a nose guard or a 3-tech defensive tackle, Ennis is not known for his pass-rush skills but is a valuable gap controller against the run. He never really got his final collegiate season off the ground. He was suspended for the season opener against Rice because of an arrest earlier in the summer, and he was injured Sept. 28 against Arkansas.
Ennis (6-4, 310 pounds) now turns his attention to preparing for the 2014 NFL Draft. He has been projected by some as a possible late-round pick.
